Tsuriyama Park sits on a small hill in the city center, offering a panoramic view of the former castle town of Ichinoseki.
It has long been cherished by the local community as a place to learn about history and nature.
The cherry blossoms in spring and the autumn leaves in fall are both stunning, and the park is illuminated every year during those seasons.
It is also part of Ichinoseki’s Castle Town Walking Model Course, making it a perfect sightseeing spot.
The elevation is 90m. You’ll need to climb a bit of a slope to reach the park with its fine views, but the beautiful tunnel of cherry blossoms means you’ll arrive before you know it.
Even viewed from a distance, the hill dyed pink with blossoms is a beautiful sight.
When Will the Cherry Blossoms in Ichinoseki Bloom? Tsuriyama Park’s Typical Best-Viewing Times and Latest Updates
In a typical year, the blossoms open in early April and reach their best viewing period in late April.
This year has been a warm winter.
In Ichinoseki, butterbur sprouts (bakke/fukinoto) were already appearing in February.
Since spring also seems to be arriving early, this year may differ from forecasts based on typical years.
If you’re planning a trip around cherry blossom viewing, it may be a good idea to prepare a bit earlier than usual this year.
The Japan Weather Association is also forecasting that the cherry blossoms will bloom 10 days earlier than usual.

This year, mid-April may be the best time to view them.
By the way, the cherry trees at BELLINO HOTEL, said to be the earliest to bloom (?) in Ichinoseki, typically begin blooming around April 1st and reach full bloom by mid-April.

This year’s illumination schedule has not yet been announced, but in a typical year it runs from mid-to-late April, 6:30 PM to 11:00 PM.
If you plan to walk all the way around Tsuriyama Park, we recommend allowing about 50 minutes.
