Kubokawa Ihatov World Photo Contest & Photo Exhibition

On July 4, 2020, an awards ceremony for the “Kubokawa Ihatov World Photo Contest,” held to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the founding of the Kubokawa Ihatov Nature Restoration Council, took place at BELLINO HOTEL.

This photo contest was organized by the Kubokawa Ihatov Nature Restoration Research Institute to help people learn about the richness of nature along about 10km upstream of the Kubokawa River. Participants were invited to take part in photography sessions from April to September 2019, based on the themes of “wild azaleas,” “Zenteika (Nikko Kisuge daylilies),” and “autumn maple leaves.” Of about 40 entries submitted, 10 works were selected, and the photos will be on display in BELLINO HOTEL’s café lounge through July 12, so please come take a look.

“Kubokawa Ihatov World” centers on the Kubokawa River, a stream that might look like it could be found anywhere, but the farming landscape that stretches about 10km along its upper reaches, while it may look like an ordinary countryside at first glance, is a “satoyama” of exceptional biodiversity. This is a place that holds the original scenery of Japan. Because that scenery changes with each season, many visitors are said to come back again and again. With its many irrigation ponds, the area has been selected as one of the “100 Best Irrigation Ponds” by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries under the name “Kubokawa River Basin Pond Cluster,” making this expansive “satoyama” a place rich in nature.
Nearby is also Honedera Village Manor, and visiting both together will help you understand this area’s connection to Chusonji Temple.
