Every year, the “Peony and Peony (Shakuyaku) Festival” is held from late April through early June.
This is the best time to view the peony garden. You can also tour the grounds by cart.
There are also explanatory displays that help you learn about peonies.

Depending on the weather, from early May you can enjoy early-blooming, mid-blooming, and late-blooming peonies, followed by shakuyaku (herbaceous peonies) — a wide variety of flowers over a long period is part of the charm.
The best-viewing period lasts only about one month, making this a special place available only during this time.

The Peony Reference Garden (at the back of the park, planted for the purpose of preserving the species) contains 1,500 peony plants of 300 varieties out of the roughly 350 varieties said to exist.
The peony stock was donated free of charge by the Japan Peony Society.
This kind of peony reference garden is a rare facility that exists in only two places in Japan: Yatsuka-cho in Shimane Prefecture, and Ichinoseki.

[Reference: 2021 Blooming Status]
The cherry blossoms bloomed early this year, but the temperature dropped afterward, so very few peonies had bloomed by the Peony Festival on April 29.
As of May 2, the peonies are blooming near Fukushima, and in a typical year Ichinoseki’s peonies bloom about a week after Fukushima’s.
On May 15, the peonies reached full bloom!

Blooming status and event information are updated regularly on the Flower and Spring Park official website.
