The Kitakami River flows from central Iwate Prefecture southward, emptying into the sea at Ishinomaki City in eastern Miyagi Prefecture, and is a Class A river.
It is the largest river in the Tohoku region.
Every year, an intense boat race is held on this river that Iwate is proud of!
