Since When Has the Okuizome Ceremony Been Practiced?
The Okuizome ceremony appears to have been passed down continuously since the distant Heian period.
In the Heian period, it’s said that babies were fed mochi at 100–120 days after birth.
This was apparently called “Momoka” (百花/百日).
It seems this mochi later became fish.
In practice, it was likely just a pretense of eating, but it’s remarkable that this celebratory event has been carried out as a good-luck custom since so long ago~~
A bit surprising, isn’t it.
